WIPocalypse! It's for everyone!

WIPocalypse is hosted by Measi and has been and continues to be FUN!  If you haven't ever done this and want to, just clicky on her name and you will go right to her blog and information.

The first post of every year starts off with a our introductions and projects and goals we have for the year.

Introduction:  My name is Carla and I work for the State of Alaska.  I just received a promotion and will be working in the Quality Control Unit here in Juneau, Alaska, starting tomorrow.  My main crafty love is cross stitch. I also quilt, knit, crochet and draw.  When I began this blog in 2009, it was my intention to use it to practice my writing skills, but have mostly used it to blather on about the things in life I love the most....my Nerd Central Command (NCC for short) and all of the wonderful projects I have and will work on in this little room in the attic.

I have been into cross stitch for over 27 years.  I taught myself quilting as a geometrical challenge as I cannot understand geometry to save my life....but quilting really does work as a teaching tool! Knitting and crochet, my maternal Grandmother Betty taught me, as well as a love for all things crafty.

I have three grown children that I am proud to say are SPLENDID people.  Many people who know or meet my children tell me how wonderful they are and what a good reflection they are on me. Honestly, they are just wonderful people all on their own merits.  Am I a proud mother?  Oh yes, and maybe too proud at times!  What is not to be proud of?  They are a blessing and my true love story.

I have one main goal this year and that is to mellow out.  Stop being an insane Berserker Stitcher. Stop trying to stitch everything right now.  One project at a time.  Go back to the slow and steady pace I used to stitch at.  I do have a tab at the top of my journal for Finish It Up 2016 that lists what I want to do for this year, however, there is only one of me and I work full time.  One stitch at a time!

Right now I'm working on a Chickie Travel Kit as a prize for the Stitching Pirates next contest coming up on February 1st.  This bag will have scissors and fob, needle book with a few needles, biscornu and if I can figure out something for ORTs that will go in as well.

I've made some serious progress on Cead Mile Failte.  Because of the fabric being so incredibly pretty, I have not put the green stitching in.  I'm also changing out the French Knots and the little flower patterns and replacing those with beads. The backstitching may or may not have some kind of sparkly thread in there as well.  This piece will have depth!

It's a lovely start to the year and I couldn't be more pleased.

And now my mind is starting to formulate ideas, and projects and I need to stop thinking before I end up starting every project on the planet again.

Until next time.....Keep On Stitchin'

  1. It sounds like a great plan! I don't know if I could do all of that dark fabric stitching lol I think it'd drive me nuts! I never bought about quilting being used for geometry I hate geometry and I tutor in it lol I should look into using it

    1. I don't usually use dark fabric as it really is had to see, but it works in this case :D And yes, quilting and geometry...it's been a serious learning experience!

  2. I hope the one stitch at a time-philosophy works for you! Berserking is good, but it's better to keep said berserking in check and use it for the good :D
