January D.E.S.I.G.N.

If you are curious about D.E.S.I.G.N., just clicky on over to the NCCIH and have a peek!

I did spend a good deal of time thinking while stitching about who to discuss for  D.E.S.I.G.N. this month and finally it hit me:  Just talk about the main stitching piece you are working on.  Leonore (hostess of D.E.S.I.G.N.) had the same idea and that settled it for me.

My main focus piece for this month is Skeleton Crew by Cross Eyed Cricket. (Go to the website! Quite a few freebies there!)

This is the first time I have stitched anything by this designer and I'm really, really loving it.  It is a fun pattern that has the smallest little quirks which throw you off once in awhile...take a good look at the eyes of one skeleton and you will see the "quirk".  It's hilarious and makes a kind of "game" out of stitching the pattern.

Would I ever stitch another Cross Eyed Cricket pattern?  OH, HECK YEAH!  If you hop on over to 123Stitch! you can see the wonderful variety of patterns available from this designer and fall instantly in-love. I'm afraid to look again for fear that I will blow out my Stitch From Stash forever.

I purchased this particular pattern simply because it was from someone I didn't know and the pattern was adorably awesome.  Every year I try and stitch a new Halloween pattern so the hunt was on in 2014 for that year's project.  When I spotted Skeleton Crew my mind was made up instantly.  Who doesn't like a ship with ghosts for sails? (Never fear I will be stitching a new project for Halloween 2015 and hopefully finish before the holiday hits)

As I have shopped around and familiarized myself with more of the patterns by Cross Eyed Cricket I am amazed at the variety.  You have whimsical, a bit fancy, olde school-ish sampler types, flowery types...it really is quite wonderful.

I'd like to say there is a farm-like ideal that each pattern has, but I'm afraid some "city-folk" won't really understand that phrasing, so I suppose if I just say a country quality that might suffice...I like that quality in a pattern, but then I AM a berserker stitcher and get distracted easily.  Luckily for this designer, there is enough variety to stitch I wouldn't get bored very easily.

(OMG, I just saw the patterns for Cross Eyed Cricket's 12 Days of Christmas!)

So I'm a little enthusiastic, who isn't when you start imagining all of the beautiful things you can create or do with patterns like this??

Here is where I am as of right now.....you might want to put on sunglasses so you don't go blind from the awesomeness of this pattern and that sparkly fabric!

Until next time.....HAPPY D.E.S.I.G.N.-ing!

    1. Fine, blame me, but ultimately it IS Leonore's fault because she wants us to discuss designers! Oh wait, I still have to take responsibility...I helped lead her astray to begin with...draT!

  3. Skeleton Crew really IS awesome, as is your post - I went to check out their patterns, and I think the Sleepy Hollow one looks great too!
And you made such nice progress, I'm positive that this will be a finish soon :)

    1. Thank you! I love the Sleepy Hollow one and was considering that one for this year's Halloween. Never too early to shop for that har har! And I agree, this will be done soon, but I'm not sure how soon but will continue stitching and hoping for this weekend!

    2. Nooo, you need to do the Frosted Pumpkin one for Halloween this year! Remember, this super cute sampler thing? We could SAL! :D

    3. That is right! Maybe do both this year? I did love the Frosted Pumpkin very much and YES let's do a SAL together <3

    4. Oh yes! We need to make a plan, so we can get all of the supplies in advance without hurting SFS, and then we should try to do one block a week so that we both actually will finish in time for Halloween this year :D

    5. We would need two months (or rather 9 weeks) to do that, so say we make sure we have everything by August 1st and then start on August 15th? That will give us plenty of time to stitch it up in time for Halloween :D How does that sound?

    6. That sounds good, we should have enough time to stitch the frame and than go blockwise and finish eveything in time ^_^ And until then we have lots of time to discuss fabric choices!

    7. Everyone will have their own ideas and I need to check my stash...I might even have a large enough piece from BOO! left over...dang it why aren't I at home at this very moment to check??? This WILL be fun!

  4. One day I will get to this one, I swear.
I have been looking for the perfect fabric for ages. Luckily, during my stitching "hiatus" so many hand dyed fabric companies have taken root, so I'm sure I'll find something if I ever whittle down the WIP list.

Your fabric, btw, is a fantastic choice.
(I really need to get to my D.E.S.I.G.N post, but I was hoping for some actual progress with my chosen designer piece...)

    1. If you need a list of a few who do hand dyed let me know! When I'm done with this pattern it is yours if you'd like!

The fabric is Twixt and Tween from Silkweavers, and honestly I cannot say it enough...their online picture of this fabric is horrid, but obviously the fabric is NOT! :D Even sent them a gushy email about how lovely the fabric is :D

    2. Thanks so much for your offer! I actually already have this already purchased and kitted (sans fabric, of course), and have just been poking about looking for a favorite fabric for it. I might pester Kate (at sparklies), because she's my favorite dyer to pester ;)

    3. This is exciting! I can't wait to see what kind of fabric you get for it!

  5. Love this design! I have to keep away from 123Stitch or I will also blow my budget. Lol. I've been horrible this month as it is. Although your fabric is calling my name. Screaming it actually.
    Great progress. :-)

    1. Tee hee....the fabric would definitely throw your SFS over the budgetary constraints! Not much I can do about 123Stitch...except maybe add more stuff to my wish list ha haha!

  6. I've come over from DESIGN to see who you have featured. I have seen CEC designs but never stitched one. This skeleton boat is amazing especially on the fabric you chose.

    1. :D I'm glad you looked! I agree the fabric is so wonderful....I'm thinking of a pillow to really show off the fabric. I'll still have a bit left over and I love having scraps for things :D

  7. Will have to check out the 12 days of Christmas. I someday want to have a Christmas Tree with just 12 days of Christmas on it. Last year I did the dragon dreams ones, and this year I am working on the Just Nan ones :)

    1. So that leaves you without the Joan Elliott 12 Days, Cross Eyed Cricket 12 Days, and Frosted Pumpkin 12 Days and....a tree with just 12 Days hanging all over it would be SPECTACULAR!
