End of IHSW and Vinnie Stretch Segment 2

You know when you are first starting out with a project and your mind is trying to figure out the puzzle of how it is all laid out?  Or maybe you are a music lover and need to figure out the tempo of a pattern that suddenly comes to you and you stitch like you just drank an entire pot of Raven's Brew Coffee in one go?

Well, for me it's both of those; the puzzle and the tempo.  Once my mind captures how it fits and hears the beat of the drum I am able to stitch more confidently.  Of course, hearing that song in your head all day while at work is distracting and all you want to do is come home and dance with needle and thread!

My point here is that for each piece we stitch, there is that puzzle and tempo or "song" and I just now started hearing it for Stretch the Magic Dragon.  Granted, it's a small piece and won't really take very long to complete, but it is a song that will continue on with English Cottage Sampler and any other TW design I stitch (which will include Tea Scene and Celestial Dragon) with slight modifications to the puzzle part.

Today ends my three day weekend but how successful were WE?  From the blogs I've read today it seems EVERYONE was very serious about getting some done and boy did they!  I love seeing that.  It also makes me feel better knowing I wasn't the only one who didn't do dishes or laundry until tonight, ha, ha.

I finished the Christmas Challenge on Saturday and then had lengthy self discussions about the proper fabric for Stretch.  I wanted to use the napkin so badly, even went so far as to put some fabric on the back of it so it wasn't so transparent and found that I still could not stitch on it.  I ripped out the attempt and put the fabric away and continued onward with the Conifer fabric.

I'm thinking I'm going to frame him, but there is time for that decision to be made.

Nancy has decided that because we all want to stitch Stretch, we should begin naming our dragons differently.  Mine is now Mr. Vinnie Stretch.  I like the name Vinnie and saying Vinnie Stretch flows, don't you think?

If you would like to see more of what my fellow stitchers are doing on dA, please check out my journal there which has a nice little feature of the current TW Stitchers.  Please enjoy. There are so many talented stitchers whose interests vary so widely it spills out into their stitching and really does make our craft far more inventive than the "others" realize.

Until next time, happy stitching!

  1. Beat is a good word for it. After killing my eyes with the 1/4 stitches Saturday, I found the rhythm of the stitch yesterday and haven't fought with it since. I know you haven't quite resigned yourself to it yet, but I LOVE the how the border looks on that fabric, Vinnie is going to look fabulous.

    1. I agree! Once I got going on that I heard the "song" and just know the dragon himself will sing along when I get to him :D I'm really glad you found the song of Cindy, it makes me feel better to know that weird "pressure" of figuring it out is off you now :D

  2. I wouldn't have called it a 'song', but now that you mention it I know exactly what you are talking about...that's what I lost with Toby when I had to rip the top section out, and now thankfully found again so cute little foxy will be done soon ^_^

Also I figured out what I want to do with my Stretch(es) this night...and now I am highly motivated to do so. Must...resist...Peacock...waiting...

    1. Ya knooooowwwww, with those larger projects it's okay to have something on the side so if you decided to do your triplet Stretches to keep you from losing your mind on the Peacock, it would be very okay :D Did I mention there is a woman who blogs who mentioned she has 200 WIPS? I wish I could remember who she is, I will find her and share, but apparently she rotates. There is also another woman who rotates and does "10 hours" per project then rotates to the next one, but she isn't as extreme as our 200 Stitcher :D Anywho, if your mind can handle it (and I truly believe it can) you could have two TW's going at once :D

    2. I think the 10 hours rotation would be Measi from the WIPocaplyse...but 200 WIPs? Holy thread, that's a lot. Does she ever finish something?

I don't know about Stretch...it's easy to resist temptation if you don't have a stash of fabric and floss, but maybe my expedition to town will yield something nice to work with ^_^ I do have crazy plans to start the Enchanter in parallel though, we will see :D

  3. Carla, I liked your analogy and agree fully. Gotta find that tempo, but then sometimes the staccato and persistence of it drives you nuts.

That said, Vinnie Stretch looks good. Can't wait to see more of him. ;)

    1. Thank you Dah-ling! It was just this thought that popped into my mind as I was stitching and I realized "Oh hey, this is so cool" and had to write it down. It sounds like you have that really busy jazz going on in your head...you know the kind? It makes no sense like everyone is playing at different speeds and keys :D

We did miss you on Saturday at the Hangout, but I'm pretty sure you know the next one will be February 18th ha, ha, ha!

  5. Love this analogy, probably because I was in band all through middle school and high school. Appropriate too. ^_^ 200 WIPs is crazy! I can't imagine having that many going at one time....I've had 3 and that was more than enough for me.

  6. I know what you mean - it's that moment when you suddenly realise that you are working at 300 miles per hour instead of your normal walking speed - I love it when that happens :D
