Project 2 Segment 3 Admitting Defeat

It's true.  As much as I don't want to.  As stubborn as I can be.  As pretty as the fabric is.  Stitching on that fabric has reduced me almost to tears.  It's not impossible to stitch on, just very, very difficult.  This level of difficulty frustrates me to no end!

I am a little saddened by this defeat, but the up side to it all was searching for fabric that I will be able to stitch on and still get the same results.  It's not the pattern.  It's the fabric. I will try a different kind of fabric and feel better about it.

New fabric is on order, but the place I am ordering from only sends out on the 15th of every month.  This means I won't get the fabric until the end of March.  Project 2 is officially on hold!  This is okay with me.  This means I won't have to put all of the floss away, it can sit tight in it's box until the fabric arrives and I can once again BEGIN.

Three weeks of March will certainly give me time to finish a WIP bookmark and stitch up a couple requests from my brother who seems to always be asking that I make SOMETHING for him.  I remind him like I remind everyone else:  There is only ONE of me.  Maybe you should learn how and start making your requests yourself?  For some reason that little bit of information doesn't translate well in my brother's ears and next thing I know he's asking me to "finish up" the things he's been asking for. He is probably my biggest supporter when it comes to my crafty things and for that I am eternally grateful!  How many people have someone who loves your crafty-ness so much they are constantly struck with new ideas on what YOU can make for them?

This brings me to a special project given to me by my good friend Leah. She surprised me with a net full of a knitted cord and explained to me that she has been working on this cord since she was 8 years old! Her request is that I do "something" with the cord for her.

My first idea, and Leah's first idea is to make a basket out of it.  I have googled images for "knitted baskets" and was surprised to see so many different kinds.

In case you are wondering how to make this cord, I will share this with you in case you would like to give it a try.  It's so simple!

You will need 4 small nails with rounded heads, one wooden spool, a hammer, one smaller size crochet hook (I grabbed a size C...you can use larger if you like).

Run one end of your yarn through the hole and out the other end.  Make a loop and put the loop onto your nail, repeat.  This part is a little difficult since you have to make sure there isn't a yard of yarn in between each nail.

Once you have loops on all four nails, just wrap the yarn around the outside and you are ready for row one!

Take your hook and go under your wrapped yarn to pull the loop out and over the nail head and the wrapped yarn for your first "knit".

It's best not to do it too tightly.  Keep it loose and it will work much more smoothly.

I found that by rolling the head of the needle towards the inside enables me to catch the loop easily.

Next thing you know you will have a rainbow snake coming out the other end of your spool!  You will definitely be surprised at how quickly this goes.

As side projects go, or being asked to create something out of something already created, this is definitely a fun one I'm looking forward to figuring out.  I'm leaning towards the basket idea so we shall see what comes of it!

The 2013 Leaflet Project shall now continue even if we have set aside Project 2 for the moment while waiting for fabric.  As you can see, I really do have much to do during the next three weeks!

Until next time.....

  1. It's a shame you will need to start again with project 2 but at least you know why it wasn't going well! It's better to admit defeat and try again than to keep going and just be totally frustrated!

Yay for supportive siblings - boo that he doesn't understand that you can't keep up with his idea's.

This looks like a nice fun side project for you - nice and colourful too!
