It's Slow and Steady As They Say

I wouldn't really call it a race, but when I read over my blog from the past few years it certainly seems like I was racing something.  I had to have all patterns, had to stitch all patterns, had to be first to stitch all patterns, had to start all patterns...no wonder I finally hit a point where I just wasn't into it!

I'm getting back into it and going at a much slower pace which is nice.  I did finish my TW Tracery Ornament biscornu for the Stitching Pirates Biscornu Exchange and a little something for the Halloween Ornie SAL and then had a moment to ask myself what I really wanted to work on.

I grabbed my Cead Mile Failte.  While I was looking at the pattern, I had flipped it over to read anything important and realized this is a JOAN ELLIOTT pattern!  I was stunned!  I've had this kit for ages and ages and for some reason thought it was a Vickory Collections kit.  My deepest apologies to Joan.  I can only hope my stitching now makes her proud of her beautiful pattern.

Today's update.  When I had picked it back up I realized I had used the wrong color flosses, removed all threads and thought I should rinse and iron the fabric as I hadn't done that before.

Sometimes when you have a very strong colored fabric the dye isn't completely rinsed out.  I'm glad I did it as that fabric dye could ruin the floss colors later on if the piece needed to be washed if I had spilled something on it...it happens!

I am using the floss that came in the kit for this, but will figure out which colors are which before I pass it on.  The kit still has the packaged needle, Aida fabric, pattern and picture and will have a few strands of the floss left for comparison to make sure I'm correct.

Jo (who can't think of a clever name) from Halloween Ornie SAL and Serendipitous Stitching wanted pictures of what I see from my NCC, so here is the view from my attic.

Different dates for these pictures but I love the morning sun rise.  It is really pretty you have to admit!

Until next time.....KEEP ON STITCHIN'

  1. Very pretty view from your house. You must live on the outskirts of Juneau away from the downtown area. Love the fabric you picked for CMF Blue with gold sparkles.

    1. It's funny you should mention the outskirts of Juneau...everything here is on the outskirts :D Downtown Juneau is 7 miles from my house, but where I live is on the Old Glacier Hwy which is butted up against the backside of Thunder Mountain so growth in this area isn't really an option. I guess you could say it's one of the "choke points". Just around the corner from me is the airport and our little mall with banking and all that and then you gain entrance to the "valley" residential area that leads out to Mendenhall Glacier. And then there is "out the road" with more residential all along the coast line for 10 more miles. Our "road" is 45 miles long :D It is unique ha ha!

I LOVE this fabric as well and need to find the tag that goes with it so I can share what it is. I know it's Picture This Plus, but the name eludes me!

  2. Great idea I always try to get all of the dye out of mine but sometimes it's really difficult. Reds are the worst though. Your start looks great!

  3. Hmm...I'm starting a new project and you're making me think that maybe I should wash my fabric as well.

    1. Please do!, it was more of a rinse than a wash. What gave me the idea was when I was learning how to dye fabric. The instructions say to rinse until the water runs clear. Some fabric dyers make such large lots that it's impossible for them to make sure that happens, so for the darker colors I rinse until it runs clear :D

  4. I never wash my fabric so that's not a issue for me but it's good you discovered it before you started stitching.
How nice to find a surprise JE too. I discovered my son's birth sampler was a JE a few years after finishing it!
Thanks for sharing the views from your window. Very inspiring.

    1. I didn't used to rinse or wash either until that fateful day I was working on Celtic Goddess and found out the hard way that the fabric was causing some discoloration on the threads due to still having dye in it.

I'm glad you like the views! I love them even if it does get a little noisy sometimes :D
