Turtle Trotting in April

Sad to say I've reached tortoise speed on my Turtle Trot projects...scratch that....I'm going in reverse!

I have great reasons for the stall, so don't think I'm stressed about it or anything melodramatic.  I have completed the February Flower of the month bookmark and changed the fabric to a 28 ct evenweave and LOVE the end result!

Because of this, I'm going to re-do the January bookmark on this as well.  I'm starting to think I should make a quilted wall hanging out of these instead of bookmarks.  Ideas from anyone?

The only other Turtle Trot project I have worked on is the second Quaker Ornament which is looking quite lovely!

My to-list for this month may be a bit more than I can do, but as I said, I have reasons!

My step-mother is in town this week and weekend for the Juneau Folk Festival.  She is used to bigger, more crowded venues where you could just sit down with whoever and start to play, and sadly it isn't as easy to do here.

Our festival is more "organized" and uptight...it's the only way I can think of to explain how it's run here.  There really isn't a "festival" atmosphere, and the only booth available is the one selling Tee-shirts and pullover hoodies. You can go to the bars and listen to bands and other players, but again, that too is organized.....just thought of the word I was looking for...CONTROLLED.  It is the cleanest, neatest, (I'm forced to use this next term even though I don't want to) well organized get together that I have ever seen.

When Carried arrived we went to pick up the guitar she was renting and she asked the question "If this guy's business is music, why isn't he going to the festival?"  Well, I have my answer even if it won't satisfy her on any level:  see the above description.  Seriously, have you ever been to a folk festival where there weren't stalls for food, drink, hand made crafty things?

I am going today to watch Carried play in a few workshops and take some pictures and hopefully some video.  The people who have come to do the workshops are highly gifted and well worth watching and listening to...I'm taking the Quaker Ornament with me to stitch since I will have hours of beautiful fiddle and guitar and whatever else someone pulls out to play :D

Until next time....Happy Stitching!

  1. February really does look good! I love your Quaker ornament start too - lovely colours :D So fun having your stepmother around :D though the super organised festival sounds a bit boring if there is n o food etc there to have, it's the main attraction while listening to music!

    1. cross stitching to excellent fiddle players is quite wonderful so it's a win all the way around! And thank you, I'm glad I tested out the white evenweave with the flowers of the month bookmarks, and will have to re-do January on that fabric as well :D

  2. Congrats on your feburary finish! Very pretty work. Great start!
A bookmark wall hanging would be pretty. Someone once told me they were making theirs into a pillow.

    1. OOO a pillow! That sounds nice too! I will probably go with quilted wall hanging, but now I'm thinking it can be a quilted pillow for my window seat of the NCC :D Nice idea!

  3. Your February piece looks lovely on the evenweave. A wall hanging would be lovely.
The festival sounds rather unusual! It's good to be organised but not too restricted.

    1. Thankfully the music is so wonderful. There are new to music people all the way to the oldsters who have been playing since WWII! So eclectic. I've really been enjoying the people who have come from everywhere to play for and with us here in Juneau :D

  5. Wow, when you said you weren't content with the January bookmark I thought you were nuts, but you were right, those do look even better on the white evenweave! Love the colors on the quaker ornament as well, and I hope you and your mum hat a great time at the festival, despite the controlled atmosphere :)
