Totally Useless...Not Entirely

It's time again for the TUSAL report!  I was looking at my ORT Jar last night and thought "Oh!  I don't feel like I have stitched that much."  Obviously I've done some.

It's even more exciting to empty the jar-o today because I had a finish last night that I won't share until I finish the second finish and then finish finish the entire project.  the pattern is underneath the ORT jar as a teaser prelude for those of you who aren't "in the know"....I know it's a little mean of me because you KNOW I love to share...but this is worth the wait.

My "not entirely" comment is because I have more stuffing for my biscornus, so we have recycled or up-cycled Sapphire Gin bottle for an ORT jar and those ratty old threads get used as stuffing...NOTHING going to waste here!

There are even those stray threads that like to sneak off my linen as I'm stitching when I have been too lazy to sew up the edges or tape them off to prevent fraying...it goes in the jar.

I hope everyone's Wednesday has been wonderful, so until next time....Keep on Stitchin'.

(I wonder if Crumb would consider re-vamping his Keep on Truckin' for us cross stitchers?  That would be so kick butts!)

  1. I love the charm you've added to the ORT jar, and yay for a semi finish

    1. That is the one Ashley made for me for Christmas Mysterious Mysteries :D I like having it there to look at. Side B is being worked on now, there is a flower and the outer edges of the paisleys that surround the flower. tomorrow I finish the paisley and start marching along with the elephants!

    1. definitely! I would have been further along but watching the Alien Legacy on the big screen was very distracting. Thankfully side B only has 12 beads...technically the beaded parts are supposed to be French Knots but we all feel so strongly about those....so we have beautiful beads. I may add a few more to the flower but the rest is just stitching :D

  3. This is where I tell you that I might have bought two empty gin bottles on Ebay so I can have beautiful vases/ort bottles too.
(Of course, I also went through my booze hole, and while I have many pretty bottles, they're not very conducive for ort collection - mostly because there aren't good places to cut the glass to have a wide enough hole to get orts out in the future ;)

    1. I've noticed that as well! Some really inspired bottle making hinders my ability to use those bottles for anything and cutting them anywhere takes away from the original art...it's hard for a booze bottle to be a wonderful ORT jar which is sad. I love the gin bottle as it is big and hands and feet and heads can fit inside comfortably next to the ORTs hahaha!

  4. I usually throw away the fabric stray threads. Next time I'll think of dumping them into my ORT jar. Might as well re-use them.

    1. oh yes! it all makes really great stuffing and if the biscornu is being used as a pin cushion and not just decoration, pins and needles slide in nicely. The regular stuffing can be a bit more difficult depending on how much you stuff the biscornu :D

  5. You will laugh at me now, but I keep the offcuts of linen and shred them into a separate bag from my ORTs to use as stuffing. I quite enjoy shredding the little bits!

    1. I am laughing, but only because I do that same thing with off bits of fabric from sewing :D I like to pull the linen scraps apart so they too are threads in the end but still great stuffing stuff!

  7. What a beautiful collection of Orts. I never thought about using them to stuff my ornaments. I have been putting them in clear Christmas ornaments with the year written on it. Have a great stitching weekend.

    1. I've seen others who do that very same thing and I really love that idea. I haven't done it yet because I need stuffing hahaha! Have a lovely weekend as well!
