Project 2 Segment 7 How to grid badly

Last time I posted any kind of update on Celtic Goddess it was this really cool side by side photo of my progress and the section of the picture that had been done.
Thought I would re-post it so you can see again where I stopped.

When I picked up the project again I had one thread still hanging around so I tried to stitch it in and found I couldn't figure out which symbol it was.  Had to guess, then go digging in my floss to find the color and another hour later had it all figured out EXCEPT I couldn't figure out where I was in the pattern.

Just a helpful hint for those of you who are a bit forgetful and confuse easily:  once you start something like this don't stop and do 18,000 other things and then think you can just pick this up again.  I imagine this is how it will be while working on any HAED project.  Lesson learned.  All or not at all.  Fine.

So Saturday evening I dug out my embroidery transfer pen and started gridding.  Never done this before and who knew there would be a learning curve.

What is to learn?  Just this:  DO NOT WATCH A MOVIE WHILE TRYING TO GRID.  You end up one off and won't even see it until MUCH later and have to go back and fix.  The following is a lovely shot of said boo-boo, but thankfully it isn't too bad.

I'm really glad I did the grid since it really is easier to count ten squares than one at a time to figure out where the hell I was!

As you can see, I AM working on it. Next up is actual stitching which should start Friday.  I have Friday off due to 4th of July, a parade to video and my daughter will be in, and then fireworks around 11:30 pm (unless they do the fireworks on Thursday night), lots of time in between for stitching and finding the song of this piece again.

Last time I did all that stitching I was on a roll and then.....not quite sure what happened, but it's been over a year since I worked on it last, sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday is knitting the Dr. Who Scarf in case you were wondering why I wasn't stitching right this very moment, ha, ha.

Until next time, happy stitching!

  1. It's so nice to see her again, and gridding is not wise when watching things, but boy is it awesome after you are done.

    1. I agree, it actually is allowing me to see where stuff goes more clearly so I'm very hopeful I can move quickly on it :D Wish I had the red stuff tho....sadness!

  2. I'm glad to see you've picked her up again. And yeah, I'll keep that in mind when I have to grid R&J. I'm assuming that pen washes out? I haven't found anything like that at the stores I've got to so I guess it's something you have to order online. I was looking for something like that before I found the red thread I'm going to use.

Good luck with the knitting and hopefully it won't take too long for you to get back into stitching her. :)

    1. Next time you go to Hobby Lobby you should be able to find it in the cross stitch isle, if not let me know and I'll pick one up for you. They are NOT expensive at all :D I would love the red stuff and couldn't find it here anywhere which made me sad :(

Yes, the pen marks disappear when moisture is added. Tonight I'm going to test my steam iron on the upper left hand corner to see if I really need to soak the whole thing or if it will steam away. I'm hoping for steam. I have seen postings where the stitcher said her fingers were moist and the ink disappeared and she had to grid again ha ha. Cross your eyes this works!

  3. I never gridded before, but I get the feeling it might help with Lady...maybe I'll try it eventually. But it's good to see you are really picking up CG again, can't wait to see some actual stitching :)

    1. Thank you! And yes, I'm excited to get back to stitching on it now and experimenting with the gridding. That may be the most exciting part about the project so far ha ha!
