February 5 Interview with TW Stitcher Krystal Barton

Originally my little stitcher group consisted of Nancy and myself.  Along came Magical who fell right in with us so perfectly, but we knew there is always room for more so last year we had the added bonus of Krystal! (And Pinky...she's always with us....allllllllllways)

You know when you meet someone and there is a resounding "click" sound?  Well, that would be we four of us (and Pinky...she's always with us...alllllllllways)  We are not adverse to clicking more with others and probably will as time go by.  For now, Krystal is OURS and we love her.

This brave girl threw herself into our crazy idea for the 2014: The Year of the Magnificent Teresa Wentzler with full out enthusiasm to match our own and I truly believe this girl will out stitch us older gals....you really should see what this girl has done....see there's this pineapple welcome (I'm including that one in this post because you HAVE to see it) that is so beautiful and the story behind it is beautiful and it is so beautiful and so is Krystal......
Welcome by Krystal Barton

Anywho, may I please introduce to you our very own TW Stitcher,  Krystal Barton!

1) Please, introduce yourself and be as windy as you like.  I know you have done so in your blog so if you choose to skip this part that is fine.

Hi!  My name is Krystal. I'm 27 years old.  I have 3 siblings, 2 of which are the same age as me (a sister and a brother).  My little brother is all by his lonesome I'm afraid. ;)  Anything else you want to know?  Check out my blog! SpitfireFae's Craft Corner

2) When did you first pick up a needle and what was your very first cross stitch project?

I remember having wooden animals with shoelaces attached that we would 'sew' along the side.  My Mom used those to teach my sister and I how to sew but I would get them out and do them over and over.  When my brother Jason was in the hospital for some surgery in middle school they children's hospital had a 'craft cart' that would come around and the children in the hospital could pick out 2 crafts to do that day.  Jason isn't exactly a 'craft' person so he told me I could pick out something.  I got a leather coin purse (that I still haven't done actually) and a needlepoint project that said "I LOV U".  I took that with me when we went to visit my grandmother that summer and she (and my Mom) helped me, although my Mom had more patience for my endless questions and the 'am I doing this right?' every two seconds. I still have that project somewhere, although I must say the back is an absolute mess!

My grandma had a few small, simple, cross-stitch projects that she picked up for me when she saw me working on the project I brought.  I then picked it up again in college my freshman year.  Since I went to a small school, most of the students would go home on the weekends.  Well I didn't have a car, nor did I live close (3.5 hrs away actually) so I was stuck in the dorm every weekend.  I got home sick and bored, there is only so many times I could watch the same movies/anime or play the same computer games so I got a ride to Hobby Lobby with a friend and ended up picking up a small 'My Little Mermaid' pattern.  I did that, and another small flower pattern for my sister, Lindsey, and my Mom that year for Christmas.  I then went on from there and picked up bigger and more complicated projects and the rest, as they say, is history. ;)

3) How many Teresa Wentzler patterns have you stitched?

None...yet! ;)

4) What made you decide to take on the TW project you are or will be stitching?

Carla talking about TW and I got to looking at some of her patterns.  I actually found I ended up having a few of the free ones already saved on my computer since I am constantly on the lookout for more patterns.  Which is probably why the majority of my stash is actually patterns I've downloaded.

5) For you, what has been the most brutal stitching project you have ever stitched and why?

Ooohhhh.....I'm going to have to say the eagle/flag one I did for my husband when we were still just dating.  I took me several years because I would just get frustrated with it and set it off to the side for months before picking it up again.  The cross-stitch part (the flag, eagle, and tree) I got done fairly quickly. The rest was all half-stitch with a combination of solid colors and blended colors.  I also wasn't the most organized at that point since I was moving between dorm, home, and apartments depending on the time of year for school/vacation, and a lot of the colors got mixed up. I figured out I had used some of the wrong colors in the sky part and didn't realize it till I was almost done.

I learned a lot of things with that project.  Mostly how to stay organized with my thread and to keep everything together.  I have a tone of tote bags so I tend to keep a project in each if I am working on more than one project at a time.

6) Any advice for those stitching or planning to stitch any of these patterns?

None yet, but I will let you know when I start one what snags I run into. ^_^

7) Feel free to add anything else!

Good luck stitchers!
