ECS Segment 2

Well, 8 hrs and 12 minutes into my English Cottage Sampler and I have to say everything hurts.  The piece is so huge I'm not sure how to stitch it.  I was wrong about the song on this being similar to Vinnie Stretch! Same designer or not, definitely a different song.

Yes, the number on the measuring tape there says it is a trillion inches long.  Fine, it's technically 200w x 300h (in stitches for those aliens out there who don't understand the stitcher language) and so far I have never stitched something this large.

I do not own a scroll frame wide enough to accommodate the fabric.  My longest bar is 16" which is the exact width of the pattern but I need another six inches for the edges.

So I struggled with my Qsnap and ended up just laying it there and hanging an edge out to stitch that way but now my neck is broken from being stuck in that chin-touch-chest position, ha, ha.

On a much brighter note, I was able to get two very lovely sized pieces of extra fabric out of this deal and you know that pieces this large can be used for many things....so many things.....

I did not get my interview in YET, so don't think I've forgotten.  This weekend was busier than anticipated with a birthday dinner for Michael at Leah's house (her ribs are to die for) and phone calls, then the struggle with the over-sized fabric.  That's all I had time for!

This is where I am at now and in 1 hour and 48 minutes I will be working on the next project in my rotation.  Yes, I'm struggling with the rotation a little.  I want to finish Vinnie Stretch, but I want to work on ECS!!  Then I see Celtic Goddess peeking out and I want to work on her.

This rotational thing may end badly, but I am going to push on with it.  Besides, you really don't know if something will work or not unless you give it actual time.  If it's still not working for me at the end of February, then I will stop doing it.  I can still see how it would be a good idea, so there is still hope.  Keep your fingers cross for me!

Until next time.....

  1. Yeah, working with fabric this size is a bit of a hassle...at the moment I just put my Q-Snap on the corner I'm working on and let everything else hang down in my lap, but I don't want to imagine how working the middle of the design will be xD

Nice start you got there, you've been really busy if you already reached eight hours - can't wait to see your next update and what project you will work on next :3

    1. thank you! I cannot remember at this very moment which one is next, but I think it's Celtic Goddess....or something small...hmmm will have to go and check! I'll have to try that letting the fabric hang and see how that works. The Qsnap was so heavy I had to put it down. This fabric, it turns out, is heavy so it's making things a little difficult, but I will stitch on!

  2. Don't worry the rhythm will come, just think of my quarter stitches, the beat started slow and ragged, but then it evened out to a nice steady march.
This is already looking awesome and BAPs are so fun to see come alive. You make me consider getting a Q-snap frame, but I still worry that frames would be awkward given the way I sit when stitching. Also I love my hoops.
Did you see, Magical has finished the first project of 2014-TW makes me want to start Norbert Stretch so I can actually have a TW finished in this year.

    1. I haven't seen!! Now I have to go and check it out and see what she did! On the Qsnaps, I have one giant one (too heavy) and two smaller ones, but I ended up going back to my hoop in the hopes it will help me stitch better. This fabric is so delicious and I have nice pieces extra!!

    2. Yay for extra pieces, that means, ------ more biscornu!!!!!!. I'm not obsessed, honest, but if I am, I'm sure it is your fault :)

    3. I'm confident you are correct, I am guilty of being a hideous enabler AND I love helping others (especially you) on your way to obsessiveness haahahahaha! This delicious fabric is perfect for biscornu ORRRR The Quaker Ball!!!!

    4. Ohhhh the Quaker Ball!!!! good idea. I'm thinking of doing a very quick biscornu out of the purple fabric you sent me since you tell me I need one to actually use not just sit there and look pretty. I was going through the fabric stash last night, I have more than I thought.

    5. My main concern is that you consistently damage yourself and one day might lose and eye if you don't make yourself YOUR OWN BISCORNU!! I am working on your ORT jars so you have one up and one down, but it is so important you make yourself something to stick your needles in other than yourself. Nag, nag, nag!!

  3. I had to stop using my q-snap for the far edge of my floor tile for the same reasons - stepped over to the largest oval hoop and I'm a happy camper :) I tend to prefer it all pinned up out of the way so i can stitch without having to go around the fabric all the time as I cannot work from the front only with smaller ct fabric.
